Classic Ontario ASL: Name Signs
295 minutes, 2 disks, for ASL audiences, no voice-over
Classic Ontario ASL: Name Signs traces the evolution of name signs among
former students of the Ontario School for the Deaf, Belleville, Ontario.
Viewing this DVD may resemble the opening of a time capsule. It preserves
name-sign specimens over various eras from the late 19th century until 1973.
Presented in seven chapters, this documentary explores a variety of topics
which will pique the interest of viewers. Actual footage of interviews with
Deaf men and women are shown. Viewers see the research evidence directly --
rather than through the words of a researcher. Photographs capture a sense
of history and several anecdotes reveal what life was like at OSD.
