When using the ASL bean bags, you can use many creative ideas such as introducing the color signs, read and fingerspell color words, match two colors …
CREATIVE IDEAS:
1. tuck one bean bag inside Toddler’s T-shirt, sock, sleeves or pants and encourage child to take it out
2. throw colored bean bags in specific colored loops or colored bowls
3. put bean bag on child’s head or shoulder and encourage him/her to walk around without letting it fall down
ADD two or more bean bags on head or shoulder
4. Relay: adult signs red, child runs and picks up red and run back.
5. two children throw bean bag back and forth – two feet apart, then increase distance
6. squeeze bean bag – great for hand massage
7. put bean bag between knees and walk around
8. throw bean bag up in the air and catch
9. hide and find bean bags and match pictures
10. pick up as many bean bag using both hands or one hand
11. match colored circles to colored bean bags
12. carry bean bag in a big spoon – walk up and drop it off in a box and then back, pass the spoon to the next person, then repeat
13. building towers --- see if you can build them up (like a tower) without letting them fall down.... if fall, then everyone falls down (kids love that game)
14. form a circle, play game like: duck, duck, goose
15. form a circle of six, two people throw same colored bean bag back and forth, like two people for red, two people for green, two people for yellow. Everyone throws back and forth without dropping it… great for concentration
16. form 2 circles, each person pass the bean bag to the next person, then the next person pass to the next, and so on…. Time it and see who is faster
17. Adult signs red, and let youngsters run to the colored loops
18. leave bean bags on the floor, let youngsters walk around and when the light flashes, child picks up red bean bag and runs and sits on the red chair, other child picks up yellow bean bag and runs to the yellow chair, etc.
19. put bean bag on head and ask child what color it is? Have the child guesses the color.
20. form bean bags in straight line, or in shapes like circle, square, triangle, or in alphabet like S or L or M
